The second half of the Irish season will begin on Sunday in Downs GAA club in Mullingar. It promises to be a very close contest considering that less than three points separated all four corps after the Arklow contest in July.
Four corps from around Ireland will take part, including Vikings Drum Corps, Clondalkin Youth Band, Inbhear Mor Performance Ensemble and the contest hosts, Celtic Crusaders.
It is the first time Celtic Crusaders will host a contest in Ireland in five years, and the free event has been attracting a lot of interest locally. Mullingar Town Band Director Kim Magee: “"We have not held an IMBA competition in five years due to travel and other banding commitments. We are hosting at The Downs GAA club grounds. The club have completed construction of a fantastic viewing stand, so we are really looking forward to bringing IMBA back to Mullingar in August."
The return to competition comes during an exciting week in Ireland, as former Clonmel Bluehawks member Shayne O'Brien celebrated winning the DCI World Championships with The Bluecoats. While Shayne isn't the first from Ireland to march DCI, he is the first to march with the World Championship winning corp. The IMBA congratulated him on the fantastic achievement earlier this week.
The Mullingar contest takes place on Sunday August 21st from 14.00 GMT.
DCE will post updates from the venue on our facebook page.
