This weekend saw two shows in the European Music Games series. Juliana topped the show in Leeuwarden - The Netherlands, while the Starriders won the contest in Rastede - Germany.
In Leeuwarden Juliana scored 67.35 points, the highest score so far in this year's European ranking. Jong-Holland came second with a score of 57.55. Showband Marum, again present at a DCN contest after several years of absence, ended in third place with 52.90. Jubal decided to do a concert performance only, because there were no yardlines available on the field. The corps board found it too dangerarous for the members to march. Therefore, they didn't receive a score.
In the Junior Class, Johan Friso continued their winning streak with a score of 70.40, followed by Jong Jubal (67.40), Jong-Holland Junioren (61.70) and Jong Beatrix (59.35).
The contest was part of the Proud Event, where other corps performed too: Pasveer, Advendo, Takostu, Jong Pasveer, Jong Advendo and Jeugdband Takostu. They were judged in exhibition and no scores were announced for them. The ice on the cake was Blue Devils International Corps from Concord - California. They did two performances during the day. Several drum corps classics like 'When a Man Loves a Woman', 'Rhapsody in Blue' and 'Channel One Suite' got the crowd on their feet.
The contest at the Rasteder Musiktage in Rastede - Germany was the first German show of the season. The Starriders started the season with a score of 64.00, followed, also winning the Effect and Visual captions. Spirit of 52 followed in second place (60.65), taking the Music caption home. Wölper Löwen scored an impressive 57.55, almost five points higher than at the Rastede show last year. The score resulted in a firm third position. Blue Diamonds came fourth with 49.60 and the Dutch corps Con Spirito fifth with 45.25.
All scores and recaps can be found on the score page. The next show is the European Music Games Regional on Saturday 4th July in Woking. Corps from the UK, Ireland as well as the Blue Devils International Corps will take part in this big international event.
